A public meeting is being held to discuss the on-going threat of more industrial wind turbines in West Donegal.
The meeting is set to take place in St. Bride’s Hall, Lettermacaward on Saturday, January 7 at 8pm.
Currently, there are four planning applications at various stages before An Bord Pleanála (the Irish Planning Board) for Graffy outside Glenties, Gweebarra, Maas and in the Rosses outside Dungloe.
Speaking to the Donegal News, a spokesperson from the Gweebarra conservation group said these proposals are unsustainable and contrary to the Donegal County Development Plan.
“The Donegal County Development Plan acknowledges the importance of areas of especially high scenic amenity, our freshwater pearl mussel rivers, the Gweebarra River Valley and areas susceptible to landslides.
“However, Minister Ó Brien has rejected Donegal County Council’s decision to omit areas susceptible to landslides, which is very worrying as we do not want to see another Meenbog disaster which would badly impact on the many sustainable tourism businesses in West Donegal,” they said.
