PSNI officer struck by car stolen in Bridgend

POLICE in Derry are appealing for information after an officer was struck by a car in the early hours of this morning – the vehicle had been stolen earlier in Bridgend.

At about 12.20am, Gardai at Buncrana received a report of the theft of a northern registration Toyota Celica car from a house in Bridgend.

The house was also ransacked during the incident.

Shortly before 4am, the car was spotted by police at Caw Hill Park in Derry.

The car was reversed into a police car. However, when officers approached, the car was driven at them and it drove over an officer’s foot. The officer was not injured.

The Toyota then drove off towards Limavady Road.
