Progress on cross county greenway

WORKS on the first section of the Muckish to Burtonport greenway are almost complete.
The Greenway which follows old railway tracks was recently awarded funding and is set to provide a high standard 2.5km trail for walking, cycling and running.
The overall trial will follow the former railway track from Burtonport to Letterkenny and works are complete on a section between Creeslough and Falcarragh.
Two more sections are set to be upgraded in 2022 with the trail heading towards Falcarragh from the current section. This work will include much needed parking, disability facilities and accessibility.
Cllr Michael McClafferty explained that a delegation from Donegal County Council and locals from the Muckish committee group inspected the recent works and were delighted with the progress.
Cllr McClafferty said, “Manus, Gerard and Corney Mc Mullan were the driving force behind getting this railway transformed into a greenway for the whole community to use.
“There has been a lot of work done with Donegal County Council and alongside local County Councillors to get it to where it is today for all to enjoy.
“One day you will be able to walk, cycle, or run from Creeslough to Burtonport.
“This is part of the plan,” said Cllr McClafferty.
