AN EXCITING new comedy to be broadcast on TG4 this weekend will carry on the legacy of the late actor and writer, Seán Mac Fhionnghaile.
The comedy series Na Bunions was scripted and produced in the Donegal Gaeltacht and will be officially launched in Gaoth Dobhair tomorrow before going out on the Irish language channel at 8pm on Sunday.
The production is believed to have cost more than €1 million and has proved a boost to the local economy with the hiring of local actors and the spin-off that resulted for local businesses during filming.
The Bunions follows the trials and tribulations of a returned emigrant Barney Bunion, who sets himself up as a private detective in west Donegal to cast his beady eye over all kinds of shenanigans.
Tipped by the Irish Independent as one of the “telly treats” of 2015, it was the brainchild of the late Mr Mac Fhionnghaile from An Ghlaisigh, Gaoth Dobhair.
Na Bunions was the late Gaoth Dobhair man’s latest script idea, however, Seán passed away in 2009 after a long and brave battle with illness, before he could complete the first script.
A few years ago his son Hugh (32) and Seán’s friends Bernard Ó Duibheannaigh and Pat Ó Fearraigh decided that they would carry on his legacy by completing the script.
Na Bunions will be screened on TG4 Sundays at 8pm and repeated on Wednesdays at 9pm.
