The principal of Loreto, Letterkenny, Ms Gerardine Mullen, has announced that she will be retiring at the end of the school year.
Ms Mullen was appointed principal at Loreto in May 2019 having been acting principal for a short time following the sad passing of former principal Nora Friel.
A native of Letterkenny, Ms Mullen is a former student of Loreto and announcing her decision to retire to staff and students, she said she had wonderful memories of her school days, and she is sad at the thought of leaving Loreto.
“It was a real privilege for me to return to my ‘old’ school ten years ago, 2015, and I have thoroughly enjoyed working here both as Deputy Principal for three years and as Principal for seven,” she said.
“I am sure you will agree with me that the ‘Convent’ is a special place to be as a student and as a teacher. I have been both people in this place and it has been a lovely experience.
“My decision to retire is probably coming at a good time in my life. However, I am really sad at the thought of leaving too.
“I have very much enjoyed my time here and I have wonderful memories of my own school days as a student too!
“The staff and students here make life so good, so much fun and bring so much energy and enthusiasm.
“I am looking forward to my remaining days and weeks in Loreto – and there are still a lot of nice moments to happen before the end of the school year.”
