A DONEGAL-based priest who is charged with attempted sexual communication with a child has had his bail application adjourned.
Fr Eddie Gallagher (58) with an address listed as Orchard Park in Lifford, Donegal, is charged that on dates between April 2, 2025, and April 17, 2025, that he attempted sexual communication with a child.
He appeared before Derry Magistrates Court this morning via video link from Maghaberry Prison.
He did not speak but a defence solicitor highlighted that there are still ‘some issues’ to be resolved surrounding his bail conditions and requested that his bail application be adjourned until next week.
Fr Gallagher, the curate for the Camus, Clonleigh and Leckpatrick parishes, previously served as parish priest in Greencastle.
His arrest and charge follows a confrontation by ‘paedophile hunters’ outside a Derry hotel in April, which saw a number of allegations put to him.
A video of the incident was widely shared online.
The Derry Diocese have since confirmed that Fr Gallagher has been suspended from the priesthood.
He was remanded in custody and is due to appear before the court again on Friday, May 9.
