BOTH “relief” and “disappointment” have been expressed at the decision of President Michael D Higgins not to attend the Republic of Ireland’s only Orange parade in Rossnowlagh next week.
Thousands will descend on the seaside resort next weekend for the annual ‘Twelfth’ parade, which will be held on Saturday, July 11, two days before the demonstrations in Northern Ireland.
At last year’s event, The Grand Master of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland, Edward Stevenson, made an open invitation to President Higgins.
However, a spokesman for the local Ballintra Orange Lodge confirmed to the Donegal News today that President Higgins could not attend as his diary was full.
