Mr Buchanan (50s), who operates an accounting practice in Letterkenny, failed to return after he set off from Machaire Gathlán pier in Gaoth Dobhair at around 5pm on Thursday evening, October 3.

A massive sea search has been ongoing since the alarm was raised at midnight on Thursday.

Speaking at Mass on Saturday, Parish Priest Fr Michael Carney thanked everyone for coming out in such great numbers to pray.

“Most of us, all of us, are helpless at the moment,” Fr Carney began.

“We are praying for Paul’s return and that is why we are gathered here for this Mass.”
