Post-mortem examination today on body fisherman

A POST-mortem examination is to be carried out today on the body of a fisherman who was recovered from Killybegs Harbour.

Gardaí assisted by the Coastguard recovered the deceased body of a man in his 50s from the shoreline of the Benroe area of Killybegs at approximately 2pm on Thursday afternoon.

The scene was preserved for a technical examination.

A garda spokesperson told the Donegal News investigations are continuing into the cause of the man’s death.

“The man had been reported missing shortly before the discovery and was pronounced dead at the scene. His remains were removed to the mortuary at Letterkenny Hospital.”

Local councillor in the area, Niamh Kennedy  said her thoughts are with the man’s family and friends and the wider fishing community in the wake of the tragedy.

“Tragic news from Killybegs. Sincere sympathies to the family, friends and crew of the fishing community.”
