Positive night for McBrearty and Donegal

Patrick McBrearty posted two points as Donegal got their first competitive win of the season against Armagh tonight.

It was a facile victory in the end, but that didn’t bother McBrearty who was pleased that all his teammates came through unscathed.

“It was a good night out and good to get a game under our belt.

“It’s a change from training so yeah good to get the game and no injuries as well which is always a positive.”

Donegal are building a strong side with a number of talented youngsters getting a chance, while others are back in after stepping away, and everyone wants to play.

“Every lad wants to put up his hand and listen, it’s not going to be an easy team to pick come the National League.

“Anyone who came in there did a good job so Jim (McGuinness) has a bit of a conundrum on his hands to pick a 15 from that.”

McBrearty was a driving force in getting McGuinness to return to the managerial hotseat, and he’s enjoying working with the Glenties native once again.

“It’s obviously great.

“The young lads there are taking everything in that he does.

“Myself and Ryan (McHugh) and Hughie (McFadden) are the only three who have worked with him in the past.

“Things have gone up two or three levels probably since the last time he was there so it’s great to have him back.”
