TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular Carrigart businessman who will be laid to rest today.
Seamus Rogers, of Gortnabrade and who was aged in his 40s, was involved in a single-vehicle collision on the R245 Carrigart, shortly before 8am on Friday. Mr Rogers, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, passed away a short time later. His body was removed from the scene to Letterkenny University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination took place.
A technical examination of the scene was carried out by Forensic Collision Investigators. The road was closed with diversions in place.
News of his sudden and tragic death was emerging as the funeral of Hugh Kelly, one of the victims of the Creeslough explosion, was getting underway.
Mr Rogers was the proprietor of SR Auto Parts in Milford. He was well-known in both rallying and marine fraternities, having competed in a blue Talbot Sunbeam in recent times. He was part owner and skipper of the Amberlisa UL 30 trawler.
He will be laid to rest today following requiem mass in the Church of St John the Baptist at 11am.
A spokesperson for Donegal Motor Club said: “The Donegal Motor Club are saddened to hear of the sudden passing of our club member and well known competitor Seamus Rogers. Our thought’s are with all of Seamus’ Family and Friends at this sad time.”
The Fishing Daily recalled Mr Rogers as a supportive person. One staff member said: “We here at Fishing Daily are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Seamus Rogers, part owner and skipper of the Amberlisa UL 30 trawler.
“When I was starting in the Fishing Daily in 2019, Seamus lent his support and took part in a pop-quiz features that we hoped to run called ‘Meet the Skipper’.
“To his family, friends, work colleagues and the community of Carrigart, we wish to extend our condolences to you all.”
Tributes were also paid by ‘Eye to Eye Photography’.
“Today (Friday) the rally community learned of the passing of another great competitor Seamus Rogers, a native of Carrigart. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing and gardaí are continuing to appeal for information in relation to the incident. They are appealing for any road users who may dash cam footage to make it available to gardaí.
