Poor road conditions could hamper school enrolments

by Louise Doyle

CONCERNS have emerged that the poor condition of a road could potentially hamper future enrolments at two schools such is the severity of its current state.

Donegal County Council is to be asked to explore all avenues of funding to have the Meenaboll road resurfaced.

The road leads from Glendowan to the top of Meenaroy back onto the main R250.

Councillor Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly will raise the matter at the next sitting of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District next week.

Cllr Kelly will tell of how he has been approached by the school principals and teachers of both Stramore National School in Glendowan and Gairmscoil Chú Uladh Secondary School in Ballinamore, Fintown, as well as local families and bus operators over the matter.

“They believe that this is a crucial link for the future enrolments of both rural Gaeltacht schools,” Mr Kelly’s motion cites.

Cllr Kelly will table his motion at the next sitting of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District on Tuesday, February 11.
