Political representatives urged to endorse ‘The Peoples’ Document’

by Louise Doyle

POLITICAL representatives from all parties in Donegal are being urged to attend a public event tomorrow night to endorse ‘The Peoples’ Document’.

The document sets out what is required to achieve a full 100% redress scheme for all those with properties affected by defective concrete materials.

The 100% Redress Party has given formal backing to The Peoples’ Document as a way forward for ‘true redress’ for defective concrete property owners.

Tomorrow night’s event, dubbed ‘The People v The Politics, will take place in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel at 7pm.

Every public representative in the Dáil and Seanad, as well as county councillors have received a copy of the document.

They are being invited to address the public meeting tomorrow evening.

The document was created this month.

It sets out four principles of 100% Redress and examines where homeowners say the government’s enhanced scheme falls far short.

Like for like home rebuilds, a government managed, cost-free process with self-built opt out, inclusive supports for all affected and the prevention of a similar crisis are all contained within the document.

The document was the idea of campaigner and homeowner, Michael Doherty and was drafted by a number of campaigners including Paddy Diver, Lisa Doherty (100% Redress No Less), Lisa Hone, Tricia Doherty (MAG), Roisin Gallagher (Redress Focus Groups) and Michael Doherty.

A public meeting earlier this month allowed homeowners to have their say on the publication before it was finalised. The meeting, in An Grianan Hotel in Burt, heard pleas from those affected by defective concrete blocks to bring their misery to an end.
