THERE will be no shortage of Donegal interest in the Sigerson Cup next season.
Unsurprisingly, ATU Donegal have the largest representation from the county.
Team manager Maxi Curran has declared 35 players for the prestigious competition and all but six of them hail from Donegal.
Jason McGee (Cloughaneely), Luke McGlynn (Glenfin) and Rory O’Donnell (Milford) all played championship football for Donegal last year, and Curran will need big performances from those players in the championship opener against UL.
Jack Gallagher, Jake Kelly, Kealan Dunleavy (Glenswilly), Fionnan Coyle, Eoin de Búrca (Gaoth Dobhair), Conor Cannon, Ferdia Doherty (Naomh Muire), Dylan Dorrian, Shea McBride, Shane Black (Milford), Eoin Dowling, Dylan Doogan (St Eunan’s), Michael Leech, Eoghan McLaughlin (Moville), Oisin Caulfield (Na Rossa), Jack McSharry (Killybegs), Conal McDermott (Convoy), Kevin Jordan (Buncrana), Blake McGarvey (Cloughaneely), Bobby McGettigan (Termon), Cian Rooney (Aodh Ruadh), Cormac McColgan (Naomh Padraig, Muff), Ryan O’Donnell (Kilcar), Anthony Doherty (Carndonagh), Daniel Gildea (Naomh Conaill), Cian Mulligan (Sean MacCumhaill’s) are all part of the ATU Donegal squad.
ATU Sligo only have three players from Donegal involved this season, and they are Richard O’Rourke, Brian Fegan (Four Masters), and Matt Gillespie (Aodh Ruadh).
Their first game is at home to St Mary’s University, Belfast, who have Glenswilly man Donal Gallagher in their ranks.
DCU will be among the favourites to win the Sigerson and they have four Donegal natives in their panel of 35.
Shane O’Donnell (St Eunan’s), Ross Marley (Glenfin), Johnny McGroddy (Downings) and Jamie Grant (Termon) will be with the North Dublin institution.
Senan Quinn from Four Masters is part of the Queen’s University panel, who will host DCU.
Gaoth Dobhair’s energetic midfielder Michael Roarty has linked up with SETU Carlow and they are home to TUS Midlands.
Naomh Conaill’s Connor Roarty and Kilcar’s Pauric Love have been declared in the ATU Galway team and they will take on UCD, who have Aodh Ruadh clubman Shane McGrath playing for them this term.
Drew McKinney of Naomh Padraig, Muff is involved with Maynooth University and they will face MTU Cork in their opener.
St Eunan’s goalkeeper Ronan McGeehin will be aiming to feature for Ulster University in their first game against UCC.
