PLANS for an oyster farm at Cruit Strand, Kincasslagh, appear dead in the water following the refusal of a licence.
The decision not to grant permission for the ten hectare site comes more than a year after the deadline for the period of public consultation during which over 3,000 submissions were made.
Welcoming the decision not to give the scheme the go ahead, Deputy Pearse Doherty said it was a “tremendous outcome for the local community”.
“I must congratulate and commend the residents of Cruit for their dedication and commitment to defend their community; today’s fantastic result to refuse this application has been achieved by them and them alone – this is their victory,” said Deputy Doherty.
Donegal TD Pat The Cope Gallagher echoed the remarks, adding, “I am convinced that the decision to refuse was made when all the submissions from locals, expressing a genuine concern, opposing the development were taken into consideration.
“I wish to thank and compliment all who took time to make their views and concerns known to the Aquaculture Licence Appeal Board.”
