PORTNABLAGH is to have a micro brewery after plans were given the go-ahead by Donegal County Council.
Applicant Anna McElhinney lodged proposals with the local authority in March of this year for the change of use from a garage to micro brewery in Rockhill, Portnablagh, for manufacturing and distribution/sale.
Proposals also included the demolition/rebuilding the lean to the rear of the building to provide for staff welfare facilities with on-site pre-treatment of effluent and connection to the main sewer and all other site development works.
A Natura Impact Statement (NIS) accompanies the application.
Giving the go-ahead in recent days, Donegal County Council has attached 19 conditions to permission, including that the structure will be used solely for the manufacturing and distribution/sale of the product made on site and shall not be used for any other industrial or commercial purposes without the prior written agreement of the Planning Authority.
Prior to the first occupation of the development, a safety audit has to be undertaken and submitted in the interest of public safety and to cater for the orderly development of the area.
In the interests of traffic safety, a number of conditions were set down, including that prior to the first occupation/use of the development, all roads, turning areas serving the development, car park and footpaths, public lighting, water supply and foul sewers serving the development shall be finished in accordance with the necessary standards and the approved plans and particulars of planning permission.
Furthermore, a two metre wide footpath drained by the provision of an adequate number of gullies arranged to avoid ponding shall be constructed and completed along the frontage of the site (adjoining N6) and co-joining the existing footpath to the northwest of the subject site and shall be finished in accordance with the necessary standards and in accordance with details agreed with the Executive Engineer.
To comply with public health, all development shall be carried out in compliance with Irish Water Standard Codes and Practice.

The existing underground fuel tanks shall be decommissioned, emptied and de-polluted under the supervision of a suitably qualified competent person and filled with sand prior to the commencement of the development.
To prevent the introduction of potential invasive species to the Natura 2000 site, site preparation and construction must conform to the Inland Fisheries Ireland requirement for the protection of Fisheries Habitat during construction and development of works at river sites.
The applicant has also been asked to put in place adequate safeguards and undertake all necessary steps to ensure that no concrete or cement products or soiled water discharges occur from the site to any land drains.
To cater for orderly development and in the interest of residential amenity, hours of operation will be restricted to the hours of 8am to 9.30pm, Monday to Sunday.
