DONEGAL Boardwalk Resort in Carrigart has been granted planning permission for glamping pods.
Donegal County Council has granted planning permission for a major development which will include ten glamping pods, five pitches for tents and 10 spaces for campervans at the popular resort in Glenree, Carrigart.
The application also details the development of a reception building with a small shop and cafe, showers, toilets and laundry facilities and
other ancillary works with connection to existing sewage system that will be upgraded as part of the works.
The application was made in the name of Sheephaven Bay View Limited and was approved by the Council subject to 15 conditions.
As one of the conditions, Donegal County Council has instructed the existing and adjoining boardwalk infrastructure shall remain open to the public and shall continue to be managed and maintained by the existing operator of the holiday complex, unless an alternative arrangement has been agreed, the details of which shall be submitted to the Planning Authority for agreement in writing.
Other conditions include the installation of an upgraded wastewater treatment system, all sound trees, shrubs and hedgerow on site shall be retained and potable water supply shall be from public watermains.
Another condition includes signage shall be in the Irish Language only, or if bilingual signage is proposed, then the Irish language shall be first and shall be of an area, size and prominence that is at least equal to or greater than the area, size and prominence of signs provided in other languages.
In September 2021, the Donegal Boardwalk Resort with nearly 30 holiday homes was sold for a sum in excess of its €3.8m guide price.
The multi-million euro resort is made up of 27 villas and a bar/restaurant complex on 45 acres, much of which is still undeveloped.
The new owners are Melcorpo, a Dublin-based development company.
The development and holiday homes, which is adjacent to the one kilometre long boardwalk which links the resort to Tramore beach, was built by T&G
Properties after it acquired the site in 2007.
In late 2017, the property was purchased for €3.25 million by Bartra Capital Property.
