Planning permission has been approved for an extension and refurbishment to the current Donegal Hospice facility at Knocknamona, Letterkenny.
The proposed development includes the construction of four new apartments. These additional apartments will accommodate patients and their families, offering a supportive and compassionate environment during their time at the hospice.
Also included in the development is the provision of additional rooms for example, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Social Work, as well as training and educational facilities.
The proposed development also aims to enhance and modernise the existing building, bringing it up to the highest standards for the care and comfort of patients and their families.
Isobell Rodgers, Chairperson of the Donegal Hospice Board has spoken of her delight at the planning approval.
“We are so excited to be at this stage of the development of our new Hospice In-patient Unit,” she said.
“We thank the HSE for partnering with us on this development which will benefit everyone in Donegal who requires services in the coming years.
“I would like to acknowledge and thank the public for ensuring over the years, that we always had the required funds to grow and develop our services. We are now delighted to give back by providing them with this wonderful state-of-the-art development.”
