A LOCAL councillor has welcomed the granting of Part 8 planning for five council houses at Cosan na nIarlaí, Rathmullan.
The houses comprise two one-bedrooms, two two-bedrooms and one thre-bed units.
“This is another important step to meeting housing need in the Milford Electoral Area, where there are over 230+ families and individuals on the housing waiting list” Councillor Declan Meehan said.
“The lead in time for these projects are significant, so we need as many of these projects to progress as possible to meet the growing need for housing.”
The next step for these housing units is to get departmental approval for funding and ultimately to build them in the coming years.
“This will go some way to meet existing need in Rathmullan, but we need more ambitious projects in other towns like Milford, Carrigart, Kilmacrennan and Ramelton where housing need is huge and constantly growing.” Cllr Meehan said.
