THE green light has been given for a development at the production facility of Football Special in Ramelton.
Applicant, Football Special Ltd lodged planning permission with Donegal County Council in February for the construction of a single storey replacement storage and distribution building at the junction of Augnish Road and Castle Street in Ramelton.
The proposed development also comprised all associated site works. A natural impact statement accompanies the application.
Donegal County Council has granted the planning permission, subject to 10 conditions.
The conditions include that all external finishes shall be in-keeping with the existing development on the subject site.
All mitigation measures contained in the natural Impact Statement must be implemented in full.
The planning go-ahead is the latest boost for the company in as many months after the launch of Trouble Brewing x Football Special Sour Beer in September.
The beer for grown-ups hit shelves across Ireland briefly, with plans afoot for the drink to return next summer.
McDaids has been developing soft drinks to go with any occasion since the 1940s. Football Special was originally born to help celebrate the numerous successes of local Ramelton, Donegal football club, Swilly Rovers.
The drink called ‘Football Cup’ was designed for players to ‘fill the cup’ with an exciting non-alcoholic beverage.
Swilly Rovers were a very successful amateur side in the 1950s and 1960s and this success allowed the cup to be filled on many occasions.
The McDaid family were heavily involved with these teams so it added extra sentiment to be able to develop a product to celebrate their local team’s successes.
Later the name was changed to Football Special, but the unique taste stayed the same.
