Pipe bomb attack was ‘cowardly’ – Cllr O’Donnell

A LOCAL councillor targeted in a pipe bomb attack at his holiday home broke his silence today (Sunday)

Speaking publicly for the first time about the incident to the Donegal News, Independent Cllr John O’Donnell, said it was a ‘cowardly act’ he was deeply ‘uspet and annoyed’.

“It is outrageous and a sad day for democracy that I have been targeted in this way,” he said.

Detectives investigating the pipe bomb attack on the holiday home in Downings have warned Cllr O’Donnell to step up his personal security. They are also investigating a number of other incidents on other property recently to establish if there are any links.

Cllr John O’Donnell was elected as an independent councillor for the Letterkenny and Milford areas on Donegal County Council in May.

The holiday home was sealed off by gardai late on Thursday night after an anonymous phone call to the Samaritans in Derry.
