Pilot scheme announced for Gaeltacht tradespeople

Údarás na Gaeltachta has announced a new pilot scheme Glasoiliúint, to assist Gaeltacht tradespeople and professionals seeking to update or learn new skills.
Up to €2,000 will be available towards tuition fees for recognised courses related to energy conservation, or in renewable energy technologies.

There is high demand for electrical, plumbing, engineering, architectural, installation, construction and roofing skills in the renewable energy sector; the aim of this scheme is to further train workers seeking to transition into that sector.

Tomás Ó Síocháin, Údarás na Gaeltachta CEO said: “The importance of addressing climate change and the need to lower the carbon footprint is widely recognised if we are to mitigate the effects of global warming. Furthermore, Údarás na Gaeltachta has identified ‘An Ghaeltacht Ghlas’ as an important opportunity to contribute to job creation and the Gaeltacht economy in the Údarás na Gaeltachta Strategy 2021-2025.
If Gaeltacht communities are to successfully adapt, they require additional training opportunities– we are pleased that this pilot scheme Glasoiliúint will provide those opportunities.“
