Petition to halt Creeslough shop

by Kate Heaney

A PETITION has been launched to prevent the reconstruction of a shop in Creeslough at the site of the October 7, 2022 tragedy, after developers revealed their plans to the mother of one of the ten people who died there.

Friends and relatives of some of the victims instead want to see a memorial erected on the site to the 10 victims who died. They were Robert Garwe (50), Shauna Flanagan-Garwe (5), Hugh Kelly (59), Martina Martin (49), James O’Flaherty (48), Leona Harper (14), Jessica Gallagher (24), Martin McGill (49), Catherine O’Donnell (39) and her son James Monaghan (13).

The petition is being led by Gemma Heaney, a close friend of the Harper Family.

Entitled “Halt the Reconstruction of Creeslough Explosion Site, Establish a Memorial Instead” on Change.Org, yesterday had 636 signatures.

In Thursday’s Donegal News Donna Harper, mother of Leona, spoke of her horror of learning there were plans to re-establish a commercial unit on the site where her daughter died.
