LETTERKENNY man Peter Timoney has been remembered for his caring nature following his sad passing at the weekend.
Mr Timoney, of Ballymacool, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness bravely borne, surrounded by his loving family and in the compassionate care of hospice staff on Sunday, January 25.
Requiem Mass took place on Wednesday in St Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny.
Mr Timoney worked as a psychiatric nurse for 45 years, guiding the transition from institutional care to community-based support, enabling fuller lives and greater integration into the community.
Many of those he mentored remember him as a man of humour and fun, but also a man of encouragement, guidance and support.
Addressing the congregation at Mass, Chief Celebrant Monsignor Kevin Gillespie said Mr Timoney remained calm in crisis and clear minded about the purpose of his profession, which was to serve the dignity of those who were put in his care, to be supported and helped.
After Mass, burial took place in Conwal Cemetery.
Mr Timoney is predeceased by his parents John and Anna Maria, sisters Veronica, Maria, Josephine, Gertrude and Helena and his brother Leonard.
He is the beloved husband of Gorretti and much loved father of John (Marzie), Mark (Maria), Petrina (Mark Grehan), Adele (Lee Evans) and Clíodhna (Paddy Joe Rickard).
He is the adored grandfather of Clodagh, Anna-Lee, Natalia Rose, Cullen, Seren, Ellie-Mae, Bonnie-Rae and Seán Peadar and the cherished brother of Kathleen Higgins, Angela Gibbons, Anastasia Bagnall, Carmel Collins and Christina Timoney.
He is deeply regretted and lovingly remembered by his wife, sons, daughters, grandchildren, sisters, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, extended family and many friends.
