THIS afternoon a Letterkenny-based father-of-two fulfilled a long-time ambition of opening up his own gym having taken the brave step of re-skilling during the economic downturn.
Emmet Rushe moved into his new premises at the Enterprise Fund Business Park in the second week in December and today a host of special guests attended his official opening, including Donegal and Ireland International Rules Captain, Michael Murphy and other members of the Donegal senior squad.
It has been a long and hard road for the Lifford native, who went from not getting work as a carpenter due to the economic downturn to taking the brave step of starting what is now Rushe Fitness.
When Emmet’s work as a carpenter dried up in 2011, due to the economic downtown, he decided to re-skill as a fitness instructor. “I spent one day in the dole queue and I said to myself ‘not a chance’.”
