Donegal 0-15 Antrim 0-15 AET (Donegal won 5-4 on penalties)
THERE was penalty delight for Donegal this evening as they defeated Antrim on penalties in the Ulster Under 20 quarter-final in MacCumhaill Park.
David Boyle (2) and Blake McGarvey kicked scores in the first quarter as Donegal opened up a 3-1 lead after 13 minutes.
However, Antrim took a grip of things after that and the sides were level at four points apiece at the break.
Conor O’Neill kicked the first point after the restart but Antrim then kicked three scores on the trot to move ahead.
David Boyle struck two frees to level matters but a brace from Ryan McQuillan pushed the visitors into the lead again.
Boyle had a great goal chance in the 58th minute but Shea Laverty made a good save.
Donegal kept battling and Boyle (free) and Christy Mulligan sent the game to extra-time.
O’Neill and Blake McGarvey moved Donegal 0-11 to 0-9 ahead but Antrim then struck four points in the space of five minutes.
Callum Higgins pushed Antrim three ahead, but Leo McLoone’s men rallied into the town end and Boyle scored a free while Shaun Ward hit a brace.
McQuillan and Ward swapped frees to send the match to a penalty shoot-out.
Donegal won 5-4 on spot-kicks. Blake McGarvey, Ward, Daniel Gildea, Boyle, and Daniel Marley all scored while Aaron Cullen made a fine save from Eoin Gough.
McLoone’s men now face Derry in the semi-final.
