LETTERKENNY woman Peggy McGinty was remembered for her tremendous faith and caring nature at her requiem Mass on Sunday last.
Ms McGinty of 376 Ballaghderg, Letterkenny and formerly of Cloghanbeg, Cloghan, passed away on Thursday, June 19.
Requiem Mass took place in St Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny on Sunday.
Addressing the congregation, Chief Celebrant, Fr Kizito Kalameera spoke of Peggy’s time spent working as a psychiatric nurse in St Conal’s Hospital.
Here, she worked alongside her two sisters, Kitty and Nanny.
In 1966, Peggyy met Thomas, and they were married just one year later.
“The first of their 11 children was born in 1969 and the others followed,” Fr Kalameera said.
The family moved to Ballaghderg, Letterkenny in 1973.
“In the 52 years she lived there she made many fantastic neighbours and friends,” Fr Kalameera continued.
“There was not a child in the Mountain Top that she did not put a plaster on or attend to in some way.”
Over the years, Ms McGinty was involved in numerous campaigns, one of which was a campaign to develop the national school at Illistrin.
Fr Kalameera recalled Ms McGinty’s tremendous faith.
“She had a prayer for every occasion,” he said.
“She even had one for passing the driving test.
“She was also a great believer in lighting blessed candles.”
After Mass, burial took place in Conwal Cemetery.
Ms McGinty is predeceased by her beloved husband Thomas (2015), her brother, Jimmy, and sisters, Nanny Stewart and Kitty McDaid.
She is the much loved mother of Thomas (Orla), Michael (Breege), Bríd (Johnny), Patrick (Sharon), Charles (Aoife), Eunan (Niamh), Catherine, Mairead (Kevin), John Paul (Doreen), Ann-Marie and Kevin, and a cherished grandmother to her 16 grandchildren.
She is deeply regretted by her large circle of family and friends.
