PROUD families filled the school hall last Saturday as they eagerly awaited the performance of the Deele College Anthem gifted by past pupil, renowned fiddle player and musician Matthew McGranaghan.
Matthew, who has over 20 years of experience in the music business worked alongside the school choir to produce ‘Think of Me’, the Deele College Anthem.
The Castlefinn man was recognised as a virtuosic talent from an early age. He has performed in and across many genres and disciplines from traditional to classical, country to pop and many more.
He began his musical journey aged seven by learning traditional music from a neighbour for 18 months. Aside from that, he is virtually self-taught on his chosen instrument. He has toured and performed as a soloist and as a member of different groups in Ireland, the UK, Europe, Canada, the USA and on cruises for guest performances.
Over the past 10 years he has worked with well-known artists such as Dolores Keane, Nathan Carter, Mary Black, Michael English, Brendan Shine and many more.
Matthew McGranaghan said “Think of Me” is for Deele College, past and present staff and pupils, the community that supports the school, the parents and families associated with the school and everyone who has had a link or association to the school in its life so far.
“I hope it can be a thread throughout all our lives that connects us all to the school, as a community with a strong connection in common.
“Although “Think of Me” (Anthem for Deele) is written for and dedicated to Deele College, I hope that it will resonate with and appeal to people beyond the boundaries of Deele’s influence also,” he said.
However, the school choir weren’t the only ones to perform on the night, past and present students also took to the stage to entertain the crowds.
Courtney Deasley, Aine Maire McBride, Eimear Friel, Grace McNamee, Ellie Rose Henery, Megan Moore and Sophie Gallagher wow’d the crowds with their amazing vocals with some even preforming original songs.
The launching of the Deele College Anthem was an amazingly proud night for the entire Deele College community and a night enjoyed by all.
