Park warden call turned down – again

by Chris Ashmore

A CALL from a local councillor for park wardens to be provided during the summer months – in a bid to deter anti-social behaviour – has been turned down, again.

The issue was raised in a question submitted to the April meeting of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District Council by Cllr. Jimmy Kavanagh.

Concerned about “ongoing incidences” of anti-social behaviour in town parks, he asked the Council to look at the matter again.

His previous calls for park wardens were also unsuccessful.

In the official council reply, Cllr. Kavanagh was told that “there are currently no plans to introduce park wardens.”

A senior council official explained that “a security company is hired to monitor the park out of hours. CCTV cameras give extensive coverage of the park and have been used by the gardaí to deal with issues that have arisen.”

He was also told that there are currently parks staff carrying out maintenance works during some of the time.

Cllr. Kavanagh was assured that Donegal County Council “will work in conjunction with the gardaí and the security company to deal with any issues” that are brought to its attention.

He was also told that a review will be carried out to see if any improvements can be carried out.
