UISCE Éireann will commence essential water main replacement works on Letterkenny’s Main Street next week, as part of ongoing efforts to upgrade and future‑proof the town’s water network.
The works will take place overnight from 7pm to 7am, Monday to Thursday, to minimise disruption to homes, businesses and road users.
This project will see the replacement of approximately 80 metres of ageing water main ahead of major regeneration works Donegal County Council has planned for the town centre.
To safely carry out the upgrade, a nighttime road closure will be in place from Monday, February 9, operating between 7pm and 7am, Monday to Thursday, with diversions in place during this time.
The road will be fully open during daytime hours and throughout weekends.
These essential works are being delivered in advance of Donegal County Council’s Letterkenny Market Square Regeneration project, ensuring critical underground infrastructure is upgraded before surface‑level improvements begin.
Patricia Lowry, Leakage Reduction Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, welcomed the collaborative approach.
“We are carrying out these water main replacement works now to ensure the network is resilient ahead of the Letterkenny Market Square Regeneration project,” Ms Lowry said.
“This is a great example of Uisce Éireann and Donegal County Council working together to coordinate investment, reduce future disruption, and make sure that when regeneration works begin, the underlying infrastructure is fit for purpose.”
Farrans Construction will be carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann and the project is expected to be complete within three weeks.
