PAT ‘the Cope’ Gallagher is already in election mode, this morning welcoming the announcement that a new National School for Stranorlar has been given the go ahead.
Minister for Education, Jan O’Sullivan TD, said that the new school building to replace the existing and overcrowded Scoil Mhuire (St Mary’s), Stranorlar, will proceed to construction ‘hopefully’ in early 2017.
Planning permission has already been granted for the three-storey building at Mill Brae, near the Finn Valley Centre.
The new school will consist of 24 main stream class rooms catering for around 700 pupils. The current school has 35 staff including teachers and support staff. Welcoming the announcement, Mr Gallagher said “every effort should be made for an earlier commencement date”
The department has also included Gaelscoil na gCeithre Maistri in Donegal town in the Departments School Building Programme, however this is not due to go to construction until 2019-2021.
