Over €86,000 granted to Donegal forest

OVER €86,000 has been granted for works at Laracus, Donegal.

The funding will be used to connect two forest roads with two new sections of trail.

The Laracus/Errigal Forest Walk is a woodland path which can be accessed off the R256 road from Glenveagh enroute to Falcarragh.

The road leads from Muckish to Errigal through Fir lined trees some young to more mature. The woodland path is mostly flat and is suitable for pushchairs and would be ideally for cycling.

The funding comes as as Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, has today announced funding of €3 million to develop and upgrade over 300 forest parks, walking trails and outdoor amenities.

Some €2 million will be invested in improving and maintaining 280 recreational facilities on Coillte-owned lands right across the country.

And a further €1 million will be used to deliver 25 new outdoor projects such as walking trails, loops, boardwalks, ecotrails and carpark facilities.

The investment is part of a Strategic Partnership between the Department of Rural and Community Development and Coillte that is designed to boost rural tourism and local economies.
