The Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, announced today that he has approved a grant of up to €508,872 for three sports projects located in various language planning areas in the Donegal Gaeltacht.
These initiatives were approved under the Department’s Community and Language Support Programme.
Donegal TD Pat the Cope Gallagher has welcomed the funding announced.
The allocations confirmed today are:
Kilcar GAA Club – €116,894
This funding will support the construction of new changing rooms for their training field. These new facilities will be a tremendous asset during the upcoming Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta in June 2026, which the club is proud to host.
Keadue Rovers FC – €64,417
Funding will allow the club to refurbish the existing changing rooms and referee’s room including:
- Installation of new shower facilities
- Upgraded electrical works
- General improvements to enhance player and community use
This investment will modernise essential infrastructure for players, volunteers and supporters.
Cloughaneely Golf Club – €327,561
A substantial investment enabling a major redevelopment project, including:
- Building of a new 180m² clubhouse, incorporating: An office, changing rooms, storage rooms, daily lockers, a social space, a kitchen, a bar and bathrooms.
- Installation of renewable energy systems, including geothermal heating, solar panels and EV charging points
- Development of new car parking spaces, including full disabled-access provision
Speaking today, Deputy Gallagher welcomed the announcement:

Clubs like Kilcar GAA, Keadue Rovers FC and Cloughaneely Golf Club are at the heart of local life, run by volunteers who give so much to their communities. I want to thank Minister Dara Calleary and Roinn na Gaeltachta for supporting Gaeltacht communities and recognising that work and supporting these projects.”
