Over €4 million spent on private ambulances

LETTERKENNY University Hospital has spent almost €4.5 million on private ambulances in just under a three-year period.

Figures obtained by the Donegal News through the Freedom of Information Act reveal that from 2021 to end of September 2023, LUH incurred costs of €4,391,293.

The highest cost incurred over the three-year period was in 2021, when €1,732, 630 was spent on private ambulances locally.

Costs of €1,440, 568 were incurred by LUH for private ambulance spend in 2022.

Up to September 2023, LUH incurred costs of €1,218,095 on the hiring of private ambulances.

The figures are a rise of €0.7m on the monies spent on private ambulances in LUH over a double time frame between 2011 to 2017, when €3.6m was spent.
