Over €30,000 raised to help grant last wish

By Emma Ryan

AN incredible €33,000 has been raised for a terminally-ill Castlefinn woman, whose last wish is to enjoy a family holiday in Florida.

Mother-of-four, Leanne Browne, has been battling cancer for the past number of years.

She was initially diagnosed with breast cancer, and had to undergo a double mastectomy as well as a gruelling 17 sessions of chemo.

Leanne bravely beat the disease, and lived a few years cancer free.

However, in 2021, she unfortunately discovered the cancer had returned. The cancer has spread to her bones – her spine, right colour bone, all the right-side ribs, pelvis and her liver.

Last year, she was given the devastating news that the cancer is inoperable, and it is terminal.

Despite her prognosis, Leanne remains determined to enjoy her time left with her family and friends.

She has now launched a fundraiser to fund the final wish of a holiday to Florida with her husband, Ciaran, and her children, Luke (17), Jodie (14), Conor (10), Ryan (8).

So far, the fundraiser for the brave mother has raised over €33,000, with more than 725 donations made to the cause.

The Florida trip is now confirmed, and Leanne said it has ‘given her a new lease of life’.

Thanking all those who have donated to the fundraiser, Leanne said, “Thanks so much to everyone who has donated to the fundraiser so far.

“Words cannot describe how I am feeling.

“We have moved the fundraiser up because we have added a few days extra in a little house on the ocean, as we always wanted to stay in one, and now I’m getting the chance.

“This trip has honestly made me get up and take the bull by the horns. It has given me a lease of new life to organise and prepare the kids and I.

“It’s exciting to have something to look forward to, and I just wanted to thank everyone again for all your donations.

“It really means the world to me,” said Leanne.
