Over 100 residents in Gortahork left without services for two weeks

A TELEPHONE pole off the N56 near Gortahork has been left damaged and with exposed wires following a road traffic collision that occurred two weeks ago.

As a result, over 100 homes in the area have been without access to telephone services and broadband.

Local councillors have reported the issue to Eir and are awaiting the arrival of a technician to repair the damaged and potentially dangerous pole.

Cllr Micheal Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig said the telecommunications provider have committed to commence works today (Thursday) and it is understood that traffic restrictions will be in place locally.

The Donegal News also contacted Eir who said the repairs are being prioritised as a matter of urgency.

“The company is currently awaiting the issuance of a road licence from the local authority to commence repair works, and this requirement has been escalated with the relevant authorities,” the spokesperson said.

In the meantime, local residents are still facing significant disruptions to their daily lives.

Cllr Michael McClafferty stressed that those impacted include elderly people, local school children and prevented people from being able to work from home.
