Met Eireann has issued a status orange weather warning for the entire country, as Storm Georgina makes her way to the North West tonight.
A further status yellow rainfall warning has been issued for Donegal particularly, as well as Galway, Leitrim, Sligo, Mayo and Clare.
“A depression now named Storm Georgina will track to the North West of the country tonight. Southwest winds will reach mean speeds between 65 and 80 km/h, gusting up to 120 km/h for a time tonight,” a spokesperson from Met Eireann explained.
Winds will be strongest in Western and North Western counties and along the South East Coast and may briefly exceed these values. The status orange warning is in place from tonight from 12am until 5am.
The status yellow rainfall warning will be in place tonight from 10pm for 24 hours. Motorists are advised to take care on roads.
“When driving in wet conditions, reduce your speed and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front. High-sided vehicles are especially vulnerable on open or exposed roads. Be particularly mindful of pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists,” AA Roadwatch advised.
