Online fundraiser for family of storm victim raises almost €20,000

By Paul McElwee

AN online fundraiser for the family of Kacper Dudek, set up in the wake of his tragic death during Storm Eowyn, has amassed almost €20,000 in donations since the end of last month.

The fundraiser was set up by Monika Pochylska, one of a number of Polish citizens who have made Strabane their home.

A message on the fundraising page read, “In this unimaginable time, we are coming together to support Kacper’s family with funeral expenses and other unexpected costs as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.

“Any amount, no matter how small, will help ease the financial burden and allow them to focus on honouring Kacper’s memory.”

Polish-born Kacper, who lived with his family just outside Lifford, was killed when a tree fell on his car as he was travelling home from work in the early hours of January 24 as Storm Eowyn raged across Ireland, causing untold devastation.

Tributes poured in from both sides of the border for the young man, a former pupil at Holy Cross College in Strabane.

Anyone wishing to donate to the online fundraiser can visit GoFundMe.com and search for Kacper Dudek.
