Gaeil Fhánada have announced the appointment of Tyrone man and former Errigal Ciarán footballer, Finbar O’Neill, as their senior team manager.
O’Neill takes over from Gerard Shields who was in charge for one season.
O’Neill starred on many successful underage teams with his home club, prior to moving to London where he won an Intermediate Championship with St. Brendan’s, playing as a half-forward on the team.
He works as a teacher in Holy Cross College, Strabane, where he runs the GAA programme in the school. After many years in the doldrums they won their first Ulster title last year and they followed up with a good run in the Markey Cup this year.
O’Neill met with officers of Gaeil Fhánada at the weekend and is looking forward to his new role.
He said: “I can promise that I’ll be emotionally invested in Fanad and genuinely will give it my all.”
Gaeil Fhánada had a good run in the Intermediate Championship last season before losing out after extra-time against Malin at the semi-final stage.
