A one-bed coastal cottage in Downings is drawing interest from international buyers.
Estate agent Savills is asking €450,000 for the property at Glenoory which it describes as being “in one of the most scenic positions on the north west coastline”.
The house, which looks out over Tra Na Rossan Bay, consists of one bedroom, a kitchen, a sitting room and a single bathroom. It does however sit on 44.5 of land which adds dramatically to the overall package.
Built in the early 1960s, it does require modernisation but according to Savills there is scope to extend and renovate subject to the necessary planning permissions.
Savills agent Liam McCarthy told the Donegal News that surrounding beaches at Tra Na Rossan, Gortnalughoge and Sheephaven Bay are among some of the best in Ireland for enjoying with family. And that fact has not gone unnoticed by potential buyers.
“We put it on the market at the end of last week and we have had a lot of interest in it from buyers in Northern Ireland, Dublin and even internationally. It’s a one off and these types of properties come up very very rarely,” Mr McCarthy said.
Donegal’s housing market has enjoyed something of a boom due to the pandemic with more and more people realising that they do not necessarily have to be tied to offices in major cities.
“There is a growing demand for coastal living, particularly among people working in the technology sector,” Liam McCarthy added.
“If there is a good broadband connection then you can work from a city or you can work from Downings, location is less of an issue than it once was.
“We are only starting viewings this week but given the interest we have had already, there is a good chance it will pass its asking price.”
