O’Donnell wary of complacency and hype

Gaoth Dobhair have been very impressive in the championship this season, but their manager Mervyn O’Donnell is wary of complacency and hype derailing their season.

The Magheragallon men are aiming to reach the final for the first time in 12 years, and have won their four games in this year’s championship campaign.

However, O’Donnell was keen to stress that they haven’t achieved anything in the competition yet.

“We’re happy to be in the semi-finals, but we were there last year too and we all know how that turned out.

“There were people hyping up Gaoth Dobhair last season too, and now they’re saying that we’re the favourites this time.

“But for me, Glenties are the favourites. They have been there before and done it. They have men in their mid-twenties – proven players with medals in their back pockets.

“Our lads are still young and while they have had success at underage, they haven’t done much at senior level yet.

“You need to be in the mix for four or five seasons, before you can really say that you’re one of the favourites.”
