IT is now eight years since the Donegal Minors went on a fantastic run to the All-Ireland Final, with Ethan O’Donnell playing a key role.
O’Donnell was only 17, and a year younger than most of his teammates, but he made a big contribution that year as an impact sub before being given a start in the decider against Kerry.
A pacey and dynamic player, he was always going to be on the radar of the senior manager after that, but it is only really over the last year that he has established himself as a regular in the matchday 26.
He was given a starting berth against Derry last year in the championship, and has worked hard in the gym since then.
O’Donnell has had to bide his time but he’s hoping to see plenty of minutes for Donegal this year.
“It does take a while. There’s only a special few that go straight in,” said O’Donnell, who turned 25 on New Year’s Day.
