FIANNA Fáil councillor Seamus O’Domhnaill is to take over the chain of office as the next mayor of Donegal.
The Falcarragh man will replace Sinn Féin’s Gerry McMonagle when members of Donegal County Council meet for their annual general meeting in June.
In keeping with an inter-party pact Fianna Fáil is entitled to hold the post next. The seat was passed to Sinn Féin last year from Fine Gael when the chain was worn by Councillor Terence Slowey.
Cllr Seamus O’Domhnaill has been an elected member of Donegal County Council since 2014 and it will his first time to hold the position of ‘first citizen’.
