THE funeral took place in Fintown on Sunday, November 17 of Leonard Timoney, Ballymacool, Letterkenny and formerly of Meenatawey, Fintown.
Mr Timoney passed away peacefully in the gentle care of the staff of the Donegal Hospice on Thursday, November 14.
Requiem Mass took place in St Colmcille’s Church in Fintown and Mr Timoney was buried afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Large numbers, many of whom had travelled from Letterkenny, gathered in Fintown at the funeral Mass to bid a final farewell.
Celebrant, Fr Gerard Cunningham remembered Mr Timoney for having a “steadfast presence” in the lives of so many. He had borne his illness with fortitude, courage and gallantry.
Mr Timoney, Fr Cunningham said, was a man of quiet strength and unwavering loyalty, who had a deep commitment to his family, his faith and his community.
He had a life that was full and rich with blessings of love.
His life centred on love for his wife Marie, love for his four children and love for his extended family, friends and his community.
Together, Mr Timoney and his wife built a home full of warmth, laughter, wit and unconditional love. Before retirement, Mr Timoney worked in St Conal’s Hospital in Letterkenny.
His career spanned 40 years and was a testament to his dedication and loyalty to patients, clients and staff colleagues.
And yet, for Mr Timoney, work, although important, wasn’t the centre of his life.
The epicentre was reserved for his family.
Mr Timoney is predeceased by his parents John and Anna Maria, sister’s Helena, Veronica, Gertrude, Josephine and Maria.
He will be sadly missed and forever loved by his wife Marie, daughter’s Carla (Edd), Lorraine, son’s Aidan and Jamie (Joe), grandchildren Reegan, Cillian, Meghan, Carrie and Teddy, his brother Peter, (Letterkenny), sister’s Angela (Lucan), Anastasia (Dublin), Christine (Dublin), Kathleen (Dublin) and Carmel (Kildare).
May he rest in peace.
