Nominations are open to find the next Donegal Person of the year.
The awards, organised by the Donegal Association Dublin, recognise those who have promoted the county at a local, national, or international level.
Past winners include Moya Brennan, Noel Cunningham, Jason Black, Shay Given, and of course, Daniel O’Donnell.
The Donegal Association was originally set-up after the Arranmore tragedy in 1935. When news broke that 19 people had lost their lives during a short sea journey from Burtonport, a few people from Donegal living in Dublin came together to raise money for the families.
In 2022, in keeping with the association’s origins, the people of Creeslough were awarded the prize after an explosion on October 7th 2022 which killed ten people at an apple green service station. The award honoured the people’s community spirit and courage during this difficult time.
Submissions should include a reason for the nomination, supporting documentation, and endorsements from organisations and groups.
You can nominate your choice for the 2024 Donegal Person of the Year through the Donegal Association website (donegalassociation.ie), by emailing info@donegalassociation.ie, or by writing to The Donegal Association, 33 Upper Merrion Street, Dublin 2.
