No new Covid-19 cases reported in three weeks

TODAY will mark three weeks since a new case of the Coronavirus was confirmed for Donegal.

The number of cases in Donegal has not increased since Tuesday, May 19 and remains at 470, with the vast majority of those cases now recovered. There were just 18 cases in the county throughout the month of May.

The number of people who have tested positive for the virus in the Republic of Ireland so far, now stands at 25,238 after just eight new cases were confirmed on Thursday evening.

However, there were eight more deaths from the virus reported on Thursday evening in Ireland at the daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team. The total number of people who have died after contracting Covid-19 is 1,703.

Donegal has the 15th most cases in the country after Dublin (12,159), Cork (1,529), Kildare (1,424), Cavan (858), Meath (804), Louth (778), Westmeath (671), Wicklow (670), Limerick (583), Mayo (570), Tipperary (540), Monaghan (531), Galway (483) and Offaly (480).

Earlier, it was reported that there are 105 people in Irish hospitals with confirmed cases of Covid-19, down from 182 patients a week ago.

In total 301 people are in hospital with confirmed or suspected cases of the disease, compared to 370 last week.

The number of patients with confirmed Covid-19 cases at Letterkenny University Hospital continues to fall. There were four patients with the disease in hospital on Tuesday night, compared to thirty on Wednesday, April 22.

There are a further 16 people with suspected cases of Covid-19 awaiting test results at the hospital.

There were two vacant beds in Letterkenny and one ICU bed.
