There was no joy for Mark English in the 800 metres semi-final as he finished in sixth place.
The Letterkenny man knew he would have to produce the race of his life to make it through to the Olympic final.
He set off strong and was in a good position with 600 metres completed.

The Finn Valley AC man went for it and surged into the lead.
However, he couldn’t quite sustain that level and faded down the home straight.
English finished in a time of 1:45.97 but that won’t take him through to tomorrow’s final.
