Newtown man pleads with council to make repairs to his home a ‘priority’

A MAN living in a council house in Newtowncunningham has pleaded with Donegal County Council to carry out repairs on his home after he was told the issues “aren’t priority”.

After spending six years on the housing list, the man, who did not wish to be named, moved into a house in the Colehill area of the village in 2021.

Soon, cracks began to show, walls became damp and mouldy and the windows became draughty.

But he says these are just a few examples of the state of disrepair at his home.

In April of this year, the man contacted Donegal County Council in the hope they would fix the issues at the property.

But instead, he was told it was not a priority.

Now, five months later, with winter just around the corner, he said he feels completely ignored.

“I just want the council to come out and fix the problems,” he said.
