A NEWTOWNCUNNINGHAM man has avoided being disqualified from driving after being detected driving at speed and overtaking vehicles.
Letterkenny District Court heard how gardaí observed a black Audi driving at speed and overtaking a number of vehicles on the main street of Newtowncunningham on January 4, 2024.
The driver was Christopher McDaid, 14 Heath Hill, Newtowncunningham.
Sergeant Jim Collins told the court there was no oncoming traffic at the time. He said McDaid was fully apologetic to gardaí.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham agreed to reduce the charge to Section 52 of careless driving. She handed McDaid a €250 fine, and gave him five months to pay.
“As he has no previous convictions I will not disqualify him on this occasion,” said Judge Cunningham.
