Lecturers at the Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) are set to go on strike next month, it has been confirmed.
They will join colleagues around the country in the action is due to take place on Wednesday, February 3.
Their union, the TUI, says key concerns include chronic under funding of the sector, a rise in student numbers and a full in lecturers.
Teaching Union of Ireland (TUI) Vice-President, Joanne Irwin, says they have been left with “no choice,” and the move is the direct result of under-funding and under-staffing at all institutes of technology.
The announcement comes just weeks after a lunchtime protest was held outside LYIT, where local colleagues joined their counterparts in Institutes of Technology around the country in a bid to draw attention to concerns over pressing issues within their sector.
Martin Robinson, branch secretary in Donegal, who had attended the protest in December, had described morale among teaching staff as “challenged”.
